Use cases

Some kinds of group, the preset each might start from, the modules that help, and the first few decisions. Mix them as you like: a band can keep a treasury and a company can hold elections.

§01A worker cooperative

Members are the workers; each has one vote; officers do the day-to-day work within limits the members set.

  • Start: entity preset apply worker-coop
  • Modules: offices, committees, authority, budget, meetings, tasks, deeds (for equipment), threads.
  • First decisions: create the officers and elect them; approve a budget; grant the treasurer budget.spend; call a monthly meeting.
  • Example: Riverside Bakery Cooperative, on this site.
§02A housing cooperative

Shared chores, shared money, regular meetings.

  • Start: entity preset apply housing-coop
  • Modules: tasks (posted chores, verified hours, optional pay per hour), meetings (check-in, minutes), budget, polls, threads.
  • Tip: set tasks.verify so another member confirms each chore, and use the hours tally at the end of term.
§03A society or club

Fellows admitted by vote, a charter everyone signs, elected officers, dinners and minutes.

  • Start: entity preset apply society
  • Modules: agreements (a charter signed on admission), wiki (the charter and bylaws, enacted as statutes), offices, elections, meetings, budget, badges (membership tiers).
  • Settings: membership.admission: decision; agreements.required: [charter].
  • Example: The Orchard, on this site.
§04An investment club

Every partner decides every investment; the books use the unit value method; nobody is admitted without signing the partnership agreement.

  • Modules: fund, agreements, offices, committees, authority, meetings, wiki, passwords, passkeys.
  • Settings: membership.admission: decision, agreements.required: [partnership-agreement], agreements.drawn_signature: required, fund.max_members.
  • Officers: the treasurer records money, prices and income under a grant; trades are recorded only under the partners' vote, confirmed by two officers. fund.authorize can never be delegated.
  • Keep it private: entity radicle init --private, and put the site behind Cloudflare Access. Have a lawyer review the partnership agreement before anyone pays in.
  • Example: The Orchard Group (members only).
§05A community currency

A unit of account, issued by decision, transferred by members, with final settlement.

  • Start: entity preset apply currency
  • Modules: value (issue, transfer, retire), finality (validators sign checkpoints; two thirds make a record final), offices or committees (who the validators are).
  • Settings: finality.signers: committee:validators, finality.threshold: 0.66; the node signs its share with finality.signAs in node.json.
§06A company, a band, a team

Any group that shares money or decisions: a small company, a band splitting income, a team with a budget.

  • Start: entity preset apply company (or assembly for one member, one vote).
  • Modules: shares (classes, dividends, voting by shares) or value, budget, offices, authority, agreements.
  • Tip: an agreement everyone signs on joining (who owns what, how money is split) is often the first thing worth writing.
§07A digital republic

Citizens, an assembly, elected offices, statutes, honours.

  • Start: entity preset apply micronation
  • Modules: elections (approval or ranked choice), offices, wiki (statutes), badges, value, threads.
  • Example: the Virtual Social Republic.
§08A federation

Member organisations, each an entity of its own, deciding together.

  • Start: entity preset apply federation
  • Tip: each member organisation keeps its own record; the federation's record holds what they decide jointly.
§09Splitting up

When a community divides, entity fork starts a new entity from the old one's history: its members keep the keys they hold, and the fork carries what it chooses (balances, deeds). Disagreement does not have to mean losing the record.
